Financial Analyst

FINANCIAL ANALYST

This is highly technical and financial work. In conjunction with the Controller, this position is primarily responsible for providing functional and technical leadership to the Finance Department. Position coordinates the preparation of the month-end and year-end financial package, reconciliations and supporting schedules. Develops the annual budget package and collection of department data. In addition, the position functions as subject matter expert on financial and reporting topics and plays an important role in navigating through unusual, complex, or escalated situations. Works closely with the Controller and others on the identification, design, testing, and release of process and system enhancements.
This position requires strong critical thinking and problem solving skills to complete thorough investigation and propose solutions as necessary. This position mentors others in the department and requires both strong verbal and written communication. The employee must maintain confidentiality at all times and must comply with internal policies and external regulations
Position analyzes a wide variety of data, including past and current financial and claims information. Assists in determining claim drivers and any impacts on financial condition especially when they differ from expected results or performance. Prepares forecasts, reports and technical documentation in a manner and format that is responsive to the needs of the organization and Member Groups.
The employee exercises initiative, resourcefulness, judgment, and tact in working with Leadership Team, Vendors, Member Groups, and other HealthTrust employees in the scope of their position. The employee performs the position’s regular duties with little daily guidance. The Controller is consulted when problems of an unusual nature are encountered.
The position also provides finance services to Center at Triangle Park (CTP) pursuant to service agreement with HealthTrust.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Analyzes daily, monthly and annual accounting activities related to the processing, reconciling, reporting and auditing of financial data, to enhance controls and accuracy, and to streamline operations. Coordinates the month-end and year-end closings, ensuring that appropriate journal entries are recorded and all accounts are properly reconciled. Independently identifies areas where additional analysis is needed and performs necessary research to resolve issues.
2. Develops innovative and effective solutions to resolve issues or provide clarity in financial reporting. Recognizes opportunities to improve current processes and effectively redesigns processes to increase efficiencies and enhance internal controls. With a high level of initiative, finds alternative solutions to complex tasks. Influences change within the Finance Team in a positive, collaborative and skilled manner. 
3. Assists the Controller in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, investments, general ledger and rating. Serves as backup in the department to cover for vacancy and absence, specifically for the Controller, Underwriting Coordinator and Sr. Staff Accountant. Facilitates an effective workflow within the department and performs peer reviews to maintaining the overall integrity, and accuracy of the information.
4. Develops the annual budget package with the Controller and the CFO. Coordinates the collection and review of department budget reports. Maintains organizational budget schedules, ensuring updates for recent activity and initiatives. Performs various reviews and control checks to ensure data integrity and reasonability. 5. In conjunction with the Controller, establishes the policies, procedures and controls for the Finance Department, and monitors employee compliance. Possesses substantive understanding of accounting and underwriting concepts. Responsibilities also include ensuring that policies and procedures conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Government Accounting Standards and those procedures are adequately documented. 6. Provide training and coaching to finance staff on GASB & GAAP procedures, organizational policy and software use.
7. Continuously self-motivated to increase and develop an in-depth knowledge of the organization and specifically the accounting and rating functions in order to recognize opportunities and resolve issues.
8. Collaboratively works with the Underwriting Coordinator to utilize technology for enhancements in reporting accuracy and efficiency. Possesses a complete and thorough understanding of the rating automation process. Serves and a backup to the Rating and Program Coordinator.
9. Takes initiative to continuously utilize technology to develop innovative and effective dashboards for use by the Finance Department, Leadership Team and staff.
10. Performs other related duties are required.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree with major course work in accounting and a minimum of five years of progressive experience. Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements, including variance analysis and reconciliations. Work experience in not-for-profit or insurance accounting highly desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP2018 accounting software and Tableau is highly desirable along with expertise in Microsoft Office products.
