SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER

This position is responsible for supporting the overall hardware, security and internal information technology infrastructure (networks and daily operations) for the organization.

In collaboration with the Infrastructure and Security Manager, plans, develops, maintains and documents all computer and network systems including relationships with outside vendors and consultants. Maintains all network and data infrastructure, system backups and leads support and troubleshooting efforts in those domains. In addition, assists with all information technology and computer system initiatives, developmental projects, and upgrades.

Trains employees in the use of HealthTrust’s computer systems and provides next level Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for Help Desk issues.  The position requires sound technical knowledge, a high level of expertise with leading providers of industrial IT products such as operating systems, virtualization, storage and applications. The position is expected to stay technically current to ensure HealthTrust remains up-to-date with the latest technology. The position is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment and initia­tive in the conduct of the work and in the resolution of difficulties.

Work is assigned on the basis of general guidance and direction by the Infrastructure and Security Manager.  Daily verbal and electronic updates are provided to the Manager of Infrastructure and Security along with weekly project updates.  

1. In collaboration with the Infrastructure and Security Manager, plans, develops, maintains, and documents all computer processing systems and infrastructure.  Also maintains relationships with outside vendors and consultants; trains employees in the use of computer systems; maintains system backups and network infrastructure, and trouble-shoots system problems.
2. Leads in the design, implementation and documentation of new systems and enhancements. Recommends appropriate hardware and/or software acquisitions to meet the operating and informational needs of the organization as related to the network and operational infrastructure; assures that proper documentation is maintained on all systems. Assists with preparing bid specifications or requests for proposals for computer system services or equipment.
3. Responsible for the 24x7 operational status of core systems.  Develops and implements security logging, monitoring and alerting systems, and maintains security records in support of auditing requirements. Monitors systems logs for anomalies and takes action as required to comply with security policies. Perform network security tasks including but not limited to firewall monitoring and vulnerability remediation.  Shares off-hours monitoring tasks with other members of the team.  Expected to work off-hours as needed to diagnose/correct urgent issues.
4. Troubleshoots system infrastructure issues. Identifies, proposes, and supports implementation of solutions. Continuously works to improve system security, reliability, performance, and documentation.
5. Performs system, network and database maintenance on production servers, client PCs and network infrastructure.  Performs diagnostic tests on systems and computers as required to protect systems from damage, computer viruses, or intrusions. Undertakes minor hardware repairs and upgrades for computer equipment and peripherals. Installs software patches and updates as needed on all production servers.
6. Works with management to develop long and short-range information system strategies as related to the network and operational infrastructure.  Participates in computer feasibility and comparison studies to increase staff and operations efficiency. 
7. Analyzes program and system problems, determines resolutions, develops and implements revised programs, work policies and procedures. Verifies the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, review system and application logs, and verifies completion of scheduled jobs. 
8. Maintains system backups on a daily basis.  Performs periodic data restoration to confirm the integrity of the backups.    
9. Coordinates outside vendors and consultants to install, update and troubleshoot applications and infrastructure issues as assigned by manager.
10. Acts as a backup for IT Administrator role in handling Help Desk requests and addressing end user issues.
11. Performs other related duties as required.

Bachelor’s degree with a specialization or subsequent formal training in Information Technology, programming, or a related field is required. 8 years of experience in Information Technology, programming or related field.   Advanced certifications in system and/or network security is highly desired.
